Video Guidance helps students explore the wonders of the Minnesota’s history, nature

Minnesota Historical Society, International Wolf Center programs
take students statewide on virtual field trips

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (November 2010) – Minnesota students have a new shared window on American Indian and European-American cultures, and wolf ecology and behavior thanks to a new video conferencing system designed by Bloomington-based Video Guidance (www.videoguidance.com), the leading visual communications company in the Upper Midwest.  All of that and more is now visually available to students statewide through a network that incorporates existing video conferencing technology in schools.

"Without leaving their classrooms, students are now connected to the Society's vast collections of Minnesota's story," said Tami Moehring of the Minnesota Historical Society www.MNHS.org).  Within its archives reside artifacts ranging from American Indian moccasins and artwork to furniture and photographs, Civil War-era flags and a wealth of genealogical information.  "Because of this compelling program, students are offered opportunities for thought-provoking entertainment, learning and fun.

Video Guidance has created similar distance learning programs, including one for the International Wolf Center, based in Ely, Minn.  "We helped put wolves in the classroom," said Michael Werch, president of Video Guidance, an award-winning partner of Tandberg, a Cisco Company.  "Students participate in learning activities about wolf ecology and behavior."

Innovative programs such as those at the Minnesota Historical Society and the International Wolf Center infuse science, social studies, language arts, geography, and even math for a virtual field trip experience.
