Video Guidance system connects
families, improves client care at
Nexus residential treatment facilities
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (October 5, 2010) – A Video Guidance (www.videoguidance.com) visual communications system is being used to connect staff at four Nexus specialized treatment facilities and to help families stay connected with their children while they are in treatment. Nexus, a national nonprofit organization that operates residential treatment sites in Minnesota and Illinois for children and adolescents with emotional or behavioral disorders, credits the new system with improved business efficiency and client care.
"From a business perspective, our new video conferencing system has dramatically increased our efficiencies and cost savings," said Tyson Schumacher, corporate IT manager for Nexus. "We are able to connect staff without the added cost of travel and time lost. But what is most significant is that we are having a lot more success connecting families. I've worked with multiple parents who were excited and oftentimes emotional about the opportunity to have an increased presence in their children's lives while they're in our care. Nexus is working to close the distance gap between adolescents in treatment and their families. This allows Nexus to provide higher quality services that focus on the family, no matter what the geographic separation may be."
Nexus treats children and adolescents who have exhibited harmful sexual behaviors or who are struggling with sexuality, chemical health, family relationships, adoption, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, autism, and other concerns. Youth come to the sites from around the nation, and the Video Guidance video conferencing capability allows parents and referral agents to track a youth's progress while in treatment.
Video Guidance is the leading visual communications company in the Upper Midwest, providing video conferencing, telepresence and audio visual technologies and services. The company's unlimited applications are being used in countless new ways to connect people creatively. Video Guidance works with other education and healthcare organizations to provide real-time, interactive visual communications in areas with access to experts and specialists. For example, the company has also designed a visual communications system for Hazelden, the nation's largest addiction treatment provider. The new program provides enhanced, internal video conferencing integration, connecting Hazelden's national facilities in Minnesota, Oregon, Illinois and Florida.
